Carton House Hotel

Kildare, Ireland

Carton House is one of Ireland’s finest examples of Georgian architecture, a historic structure whose architecture is deeply embedded in the country’s history. After many renovations and iterations over the years, the brief was to analyse the landscape typologies of the past and redraw a 5-star arrival experience and surrounding landscape befitting the aesthetics of this historic building and in line with Fairmount Hotel Group standards.

Concept design for such a historic building required meticulous archival research into old maps, drawings, and garden plans of the site as well as other fine examples of historic houses of similar standing. This helped identify timeless and harmonious design features in line with the context of the house and the surrounding landscape of County Kildare.

SRLA oversaw every step of the project from concept design to the last stages of construction, to produce a luxurious, serene and harmonious arrival experience and beautiful planting palettes and grounds. The remarkable likeness between the CGIs and the end result testifies to the attention to detail, foresight, and consideration that went into this project. This work in Carton House is a prime example of the best practice of a design approach embedded in an understanding of the historical legacy of a building and its context.
